it’s actually good that she is always casted in dramas with good cast and good storyline like the previous one too or else I’m not sure I can stand her acting.
Availability and budget may have told on the final choice. I was mentally trying to figure out who would have been better at this role. I came up with Jung So Min, Park Shin Hye, Park Min Young, Yoona or Han Hyo Joo would have better. They have all just completed a drama or have many other concerns like modelling or fan meeting abroad. You also have to consider that your lead actor is 35 years old. So the under 25 year olds may not have the experience to carry the role and have the right chemistry with him.
Maybe “good” is not your adjective of preference for Shin Se Kyung maybe “serviceable” or “okay” are more appropriate to you. Let me see. The role asks for a beautiful young woman who has a pitiful fate. She needs to wear clothes very well because she is a dress horse here. That means she should look good in classic western clothing, young working girl clothes and the hanbok. Check. She can speak with her eyes as she is burned, knifed, battered and at the same time romanced and angered by an unmerited curse. Check.She accepts kisses well and has romantic chemistry with her leading man. Check. She has nuance as she shifts from period to period, from modern day to Joseon era. Check.
To me, she has the elements for the role of Hae Ra. If you consider her asking fee and availability, she must have been the actress of choice eventually.
I saw her in The Girl Who Sees Smells and The Deep Rooted Tree and I thought she was okay. Then I watched the beginning episodes of The Bride of the Water God and I decided not to proceed. My conclusion is that unlike veteran actresses like Ha Ji Won who will override a bad script or mismatched casting, Shin Se Kyung needs guidance and the right elements to perform well. In Black Knight she is supported by THE Kim Rae Won and the two immortals who are good at their craft. It also has dreamy location shooting that create the perfect backdrop. Considering the big budget poured into this drama, I suppose we have top notch directors and production crew in place, too. She’ll be okay in this drama.
agree it wasn’t just in botwg even nam joo hyuk didn’t shine as much as his other characters, the script was just bad they somehow made the lead so insignificant and helpless it was as if he was the support role

I thought she did well this episode. People criticize her a lot here but she’s not bad! She’s not going to win any oscars but she’s pulling off the role ok. She’s not great, but not the worst. If you guys want to see some good acting, the rookie actress in Just Between Lovers is pretty good in my opinion
why this people keeps saying she cant act.then here they are complaining and they even dare to come and watch . bitching around means you have mental issue.directors wont take her as lead role if she doesnt and take note she dont go for audition.directors have keen eye whos who and whos not. they did not study abroad not just to pick kpop idols where they could just sit around and waiting the rising idols dont you think.dont get me wrong some kpop idols they nailed it.and guess what have mental issue will say oh im entitled in my own opinion yeah right in every drama shes in come on give me break!!!!!
Really !!! All I have to say Harvey Weinstein. Sure Directors try to find the right cast but its also about connections . When a producer says I want this girl in that’s why I pay you money then they are in. She is not horrible but she is a bit odd something feels wrong unnatural and her character is annoying . I feel the older actresses have strong impression on me many younger actresses don’t impress me much

its not that has different opinion than mine .the intellectual capacity of understanding in each role.there are people if they heard such name such and such they think the larger the consensus the more likely people think its correct its misconception. they just keep dragging using this line of words im entitled in my opinion which is clearly enough why.And if they came for other reason they should not say negative to any actors.No wonder this kind of fans are one of the causes of depression to their idols.dont be a killer be saver.
I strongly agree that receiving hate comments is nowhere near okay, and it’s definitely hurtful in many ways.Sadly, all we can do is report these comments.However, being an actress/actor (being famous in general) comes with a lot of hate whether you’re good or not and everyone that gets in that line of business knows this.They shouldn’t be used to it, but they should at least be able to handle it since it’s their job.

It could ruin Hae Ra in his eyes because he is in love over the moon in her, its clear HR likes him alot too. Sharon being a creepy,jealous witch is good for their story in next 2-3 eps.

The smell, the feel, natural reactions (shyness, inhibitions) and things familiar will tell. Hae Ra and Soo Ho have just begun to court earnestly. With Soo Ho, Hae Ra snaps but gives him a come hither look. They have this one month thing going on. Sharon is bent on getting him into a compromising situation, preferably with Hae Ra looking on. So she will be forward and seductive. Soo Ho knows his woman and will definitely catch on when the doppelgänger acts out of synch.
