For me Lee Seun-gi has become a fantasy drama specialist! Just loving this come back drama! This is slightly different from the kind of fantasy kdramas that are usually made.
She didn’t have to cut herself so much, I’m sure even a paper cut could make those demons crazy. Poor girl, imagine when she’s on her period. Between demons or cramps tho…I think I’d take the demons
ikr a cut like that will take 2wks at least to heal not to mention the hustle of not getting it wet when it’s your hand and you keep your hand closed cos it’s less painful but eventually you have to open it and the wound opens up again coz it was healing in the wrong position urgh it’s not like she’s in vampire diaries where they just heal you human girl with demons on your ass!!!
Now after watching the end… It kinda reminds me of Inuyasha… Because the girl kissed Inuyasha in case to do the contract and it’s the same case, isn’t it? 🤔
i heard about the mishap that happened during broadcasting but that is not going to stop me from watching this drama! The music is awesome. I am already trying to find the song. It’s very catchy! My #1 DRAMA going into 2018. I see there will be a lot of cameo appearances also. I am excited!!
esp the piano when they kissed it suddenly felt like a time travel drama where the future gentleman rescues the princess from a loveless marriage to the tyrant king of goryeo ooooh goosebumps………………………………………………………..but they would probably be hanged soon afterwards so glad it wasn’t lol
i love ma wang’s voice reminds me of Phil Collins. well he looked ridiculous as he descended from the heavens in that fur coat hahahaha!! and she had to go to the most romantic place to slice her hand and all this talk about eating her is creeping me out what 10yrs from now they’ll be like

Remakes are tough projects because the originals and the successful adaptations are out there in comparison. The Chinese “Monkey King” or the Journey to the West drama series, films and animation adaptations are well loved and are stuff of people’s childhood and growing up years. And then there is the equally successful Japanese Dragonball franchise to contend with. Lucky for me, I don’t have any notion of these legends and tales. I grew up with Star Wars, The Trilogy of the Rings and of late, the many movies of the Justice League and Superman.
For the uninitiated, the first two episodes of The Korean Odyssey was delightful, entertaining and fun. It felt like the writers took many iconic characters and items from existing fantasy films and drama of recent memory and borrowed them to fill the CG aspect of this drama. Thus the Dementers (Harry Potter) appear every time they smell the blood of Sam Ja. Using a child to fetch a fan down a path is reminiscent of Aladdin being brought down an opening of a cavern to fetch a magic lamp. I thought that the powerful black umbrella of the Bull King was straight out of Mary Poppins as she would pointedly push down her umbrella to do magic and bring home a point whenever she needed the children to behave. But nothing is ever original, isn’t it? It is in the treatment of the legend that matters.
The casting is amazing. Cha Seung Won is a gorgeous man with immense sense of humor and presence. Lee Seung Gi is the mischievous, agile and charming Monkey King. Oh Yeon Soo is believable as the special human who is beautiful, clever and vulnerable. Of course, the very blonde Hong Ki is an amazing singer, funny man and effective side kick. Great group. Let me hold out on the “I love this drama!” Instead let me say, I am thoroughly enjoying this.
