you said it, you can never really know until it happens to you, i once broke a glass and my daughter came running in and fell on the broken glass she got cut so bad she got 6 or 7stitches at 3yrs old and i had to hold her down as she screamed while being stitched up, that guilt will haunt me forever even if it was an accident i feel like i cut her myself. it’s easy to judge someone for bad parenting when you haven’t been in a situation where you caused your child to get hurt!!
Your incident, however, was unintentional. She intentionally left her child alone in a locked car. She took a chance and she and her daughter paid the price.
She was definitely at fault. Kids die from being left in cars. She at least left window open, but that allowed things to go bad. I love my son and know I make mistakes and accidents happen, all we can do is not forget no matter how protective we try to be. There are bad people that may harm you if given the opportunity. So we teach them best we can. I understand the husband being mad but if he wants to move on he can’t keep reminding/blaming his wife of the incident.
You are absolutely right with everything you said. They’re both hurting in their own way, which is very sad. Reliving that incident isn’t helping them to move on, it’s emotionally draining for both of them.
IMO, leaving a child alone in a locked car is NOT just something one can write off by comparing that to other mistakes that have been made with children. This is an absolute no no. Leaving a child unsupervised like that should never, ever happen!
