His friends are all about being cool and not caring seriously about anything – because their cynicism is how they survive their terrible family lives. So he is scared of what people would say if he actually admitted to caring about something – because to these messed up kids – caring makes you weak.
Tbf the phrase a secret started to grow could mean his affection but it could also mean the secret that he pursued her for a bet. Also, it wasn’t a kiss driven by passion, it was calculated, you can see it in the way he counted… a parallel to those times when he called her and also counted. Plus that’s why in the car he wasn’t actually happy that she finally fell for him, it was guilt because his intentions aren’t pure. All of this is my take on it of course, you can have your own :)
soo ji is such a work, she keep testing him and as much he endured it,
it just feel that she is so selfish and only wants her feeling to be satisfied, no matter who she sacrificed.
She likes him but refuse his affection, she likes him but asked him to go for another girl [multiple times], he said that the marriage can work because they already close enough to be sibling and she hates that, repeat this over months, I can’t fault anyone who walk away from her,
tae hee is really her opposite, when she means it, she said it, she is the one who confessed and it feels less work,
but I also feel that she may get hurt the most because sihyun seems to regret his decision.
why does se joo need to visit the doctor and why was prize of the deal between him and sooji a doctors visit? and i dont get the “his girlfriend is a law student” line in this ep

and he also need a full check up so she give all the hospital visit for free to him but I suspect it has something to do with his mother in the future,
Soo ji has a lot of trauma and doesnt believe in marriage. Remember what happend to her mom and father. U just cant have a black and white view of a person. Its the same thing when people judge u :)
I don’t think the OP was being black and white about her. Everything said was quite true, she does seem selfish, and everything else was just a narration of what was happening in the drama. Her backstory can make her more forgivable for some (due to pity or empathy) but it wouldn’t make her unselfish or unmanipulative. I think OP knows about her issues, but he/she simply wanted to address or make a comment about this specific characteristic of sooji, not a comprehensive analysis.
However, i honestly cannot see what her big trauma is that would make her this way. Maybe it’s the writing because for me her trauma doesn’t have a direct causal relationship with manipulativeness and selfishness (the trust issues though i can see). Instead, i see that people closest to her have been thinking the same “oh what a pitiful child, she has a lot of trauma” and they’ve let that thought guide their actions with her and so they let her do what she wants, never chastise her for mistakes, etc. and that is what led her to this situation. It’s like someone i know who is an absentee dad and so he thinks he should let his kids do anything and spoil them with material things in lieu of his presence… he lets his guilt rule his decisions and he’s afraid that if he tries to correct their wrongs they won’t have affection for him… he’s now breaking his back to support their ever growing demands even though they’ve become adults.

In someways this is a revenge against KY but it’s also about Soo Ji’s jealousy. Soo Ji believes that if Si Hyun seduces TH and takes her innocence then that will taint TH and KY’s love for her – TH will no longer be innocent, naive and pure after being cruelly manipulated and discarded. This will both destroy KY and also make SJ feel better about herself because she will have dragged TH down to her level. I would basically say SJ hates TH because she secretly hates herself.
Si Hyun does like Soo Ji. The bet – is supposed to be about SH proving his feelings for her. If he follows through and helps her destroy her ex-love and this girl that she is jealous of, that’s supposed to mean he loves her enough and she will marry him. BUT SJ is a very messed up character – she craves love but also destroys anyone who tries to get close to her. (probably because that’s how she’s been treated by people who she loved in the past) Look at the scene in this episode – Soo Ji demands SH’s attention by running into the street and acting jealous of his changing feelings for TH but also gets angry when he gets to personal and loving in the car. It’s like she can’t decide whether she wants to love him or just wants to ruin him. Because she IS sabotaging the bet – she told TH that he wasn’t interested not to help SH, but to stop him from completing his task…

I had watched cruel intentions & there soo ji’s counterpart was outright evil.Here,soo ji is just messed up.She seems to be pretty strong,looking at all the situation she had to go through but then yeah,like you said..she does crave attention.
I just don’t understand why Tae Hee had to be brought in.I do get how her “innocence” will be destroyed & stuff but I believe KH has not been in touch with her over the years or I don’t think he knows about her “Innocence”. Reese’s character was famous for being the “virgin one” but here, Tae hee is just someone who was not interested in a relationship.
I think Soo Ji’s character makes it complex.If she were outright evil then it would have been simpler.Like when she texted Tae Hee’s friend back how Si Hyun is not interested but then blasted at him for not taking things seriously.

I honestly think SJ is simply targeting Tae Hee mostly out of intense jealousy. Tae Hee is very sweet, caring and kind- things that SJ is not, which is why boys like her. SJ mistakenly believes the only reason TH is not as messed up as her is because TH is ‘innocent’ to the ways of the world. So SJ wants to ruin TH and see her become as cynical and twisted as her, so that she can feel better about being a miserable human being herself.
I also like this version of her character better than in Cruel Intentions. I think she has more depth!
I kind of feel bad for Min Jae’s character because he’s also clearly a little in love with Soo Ji – but she doesn’t acknowledge him.

Had SJ not gone through all the messy divorce & her dad ending up in a jail,she might have been different but that did mess her up.
There are so many backstories! I think..that’s why they wanted Joy to admit her feelings so as to have enough time to develop each & every character’s backstory.

tbh, with respect to virginity, only Min Jae’s character has been open about it..not the other two. Anyway! Let’s hope for the best.

I think it was for Ki young since kiyoung know all the gang, ky will be mad to see SH and TH together but TH is under SH palm [supposedly] so TH will be on SH’s side. Therefore, if you are KY, you see the girl you loved get own by another guy you know is bad for her but you can’t do anything cause she believes that bad guy.
The main goal is KY and they sacrificed TH,
but I agree that it as shortsighted, if SH break up with TH then KY can be her saviour which just help KY get back with TH. Soo ji is too emotional that she just want to see KY gets hurt even if he may be happy in the long run,
ooh she also has plan to sabotages his future bride which probably helps that girl to see a real life,
ok so sooji and sihyun obviously like each other but sooji has so trust issues especially because her mom only seems to get involved in relationships for the benefits so when shihyun asked her to marry him because they don’t want to be siblings she made a bet instead, she wants him to prove that he truly cares for her.
She’s also a very petty/mean character, she didn’t take getting rejected well and since she can’t take it out on the guy himself she decided to take revenge on him by ruining his first love and the girl that he wants to marry. No decent explanation, she just wants to take her revenge on him and she basically doesn’t care for the colateral damage. For her Tae hee is just colateral, she doesn’t have anything against her per say.
She basically wants him to prove that he likes her enough to do anything for her, if he wins they get married and if he loses they don’t but from this episode you can see that she won’t let him lose because when he gave up she made a scene and forced him to keep going

The breakdown scene with Soo Ji and Si Hyun and then the end starting from when he tells her to go home and she looks at that fake set up. I really wished that she didn’t fall for it that easily. I don’t even get why she is being involved in all this. Even Si Hyun said that Tae Hee has nothing to do with them but Soo Ji got jealous. Aah! It’s probably going to get more intense from here. I want to be excited for their kiss but I just can’t. My mind and heart are not at rest. And what’s with no preview?? Do you want me to die of curiosity??
Why do I feel like Si Hyun’s mom is still alive somewhere and was threatened into disappearing from her son’s life….I mean his mom’s car never got into an accident and he wasn’t allowed to attend her funeral. Maybe it never happened?

At first I assumed it was dad but the flashbacks and the grandmother favoring Si Hyun make me think that maybe it’s Si Hyun’s mother who is the biological heir and she married not-bio-dad to help grandmother and the company.
