Well answered. The only way this romantic couple will be believable is to refer to them as Song EunJae and Kwak Hyun. To refer to them as Min Hyuk and Ha Ji Won calls in the reality of their big age gap and disparity in acting experience. I think they can pull off this romance yet.
Tbh, not sure either, since kdramas always turns in romance. But, somehow here just seems out of place, not to mention the age gap.
I believe I was hoping for an innocent flirt here and there, with nothing in concrete.

Maybe I`m reading too much in small things, but I could see several signs. Like the mother with the picture, when she said he`s the only who can support her (even if by then was meant professionally), they`re always together, they know each other secrets (mother, dad etc), the hug, how he looked after she rejected his help but let the other doctor treat her, etc.
Anyway, as you said, there`s still a long way to go :)

My father chose to mend his fences, fix his mortal affairs to his liking, enjoy whatever his body would allow him and to spend as much family time we could. In the end, the last days of his our life need not be at the hospital in a surgical theater but in the company of family and friends. He gave us seven more meaningful months of his life.

Guess many of us have had to deal with decisions by loved ones that were their decisions alone, even though it affected us in many ways. All we can do is support them in their decision and love them as long as we have them, then love them i our memories. Sending you hugs…
